One Woodsboro Volunteer Spotlight – Joan Burrier

october 18 2022 blogAt Woodsboro Bank, one of our core values is commitment to our community. Our mission of serving Frederick County is not limited to financial matters. Each year the bank supports a wide variety of philanthropic, cultural, and charitable organizations for the betterment of the community. All colleagues receive 24 paid hours of volunteer time each year. That’s 24 regular working hours they can put back into the community without taking time off!

Our colleagues take our values to heart and go above and beyond giving back to our community. We are proud of the work they do and want to show our appreciation by highlighting a Woodsboro Bank colleague volunteer monthly.

This month’s One Woodsboro Volunteer Spotlight is Joan Burrier, Deposits Operations Specialist of the Woodsboro Office. Joan has been a volunteer of Thurmont’s Cuddles Cat Rescue since February of 2021 and is currently a member of the board of directors, serving as secretary. The cat rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to humanely reducing the feral and stray cat population in the Thurmont area.

Cuddles Cat Rescue was founded in 2016 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The organization rescues stray kittens as well as friendly strays after an attempt to find an owner is unsuccessful. The rescue celebrates six years of helping kittens find their forever homes this year.

The rescue is entirely volunteer run and relies on the community to help support the lifesaving work they do. In addition to working to improve the lives of the furry friends they house; the rescue promotes local fun and festivities for community goers too. Cuddles Cat Rescue participated in this year’s Thurmont Art & Wine Stroll event selling homemade cat crafts and toys. The feline friendly group can often be found at the Thurmont Farmer’s market advocating its mission and encouraging others to support local vendors.

Joan finds inspiration in her volunteer work and says, “the fact that we help so many cats find loving forever homes is the best feeling. It’s a great serotonin boost even if there is a lot of hard work involved.” There is no labor too small to spare when it comes to the animals’ best quality of life at Cuddles. They make sure all cats are spayed or neutered before they leave the rescue and even receive family updates to see how well the cats thrive after adoption!

Joan has a passion for volunteering and serving others and the community by giving her time and energy. Thank you Joan for all your hard work and dedication to improving our community!
