Frederick, Maryland - Woodsboro Bank is proud to spotlight the leadership of Bethany Lord, Chief Human Resources Officer, and the meaningful impact of the Community Internship Program she created to invest in Frederick County’s future workforce. Through Bethany’s vision, the program has become a powerful example of how professional development, community engagement, and local partnership can come together to create lasting opportunities for young professionals.
With support from Frederick Workforce Services, whose grant funding helped expand the initiative, the Community Internship Program offers Frederick County interns a free opportunity to grow through both personal and professional development while experiencing the community in meaningful ways.
“Frederick County Workforce Services is a proud sponsor of the Community Internship Program,” said Patty McDonald, Program Manager, Business and Career Services at Frederick Workforce Services, “helping early‑career talent gain meaningful, hands‑on experience and connections while strengthening the talent pipeline for Frederick County.”
Under Bethany’s leadership, the program has included sessions on soft skills, networking, personal branding, and community involvement, along with local experiences such as a Double Decker bus tour and a Frederick Keys outing, all designed to help interns build confidence, connections, and a stronger sense of place. Kristen Wojdan, Founder & Executive Director, ELEVATE Scholar-Athlete Leadership Academy, who helped kick off this year’s program said “By connecting college interns with caring professionals and real-world experiences, this program equips them with the confidence, leadership skills, and relationships that will serve them long after the internship ends.”
Bethany’s work on the program reflects her broader commitment to people development and community leadership. As a culture-first executive and leadership coach who has coached interns and executives alike, she has built a program that goes beyond workplace exposure to create a supportive, growth-focused experience for interns. Her leadership continues to shape opportunities that not only prepare interns for future careers, but also deepen their connection to Frederick County.
That same people-first approach has helped strengthen Woodsboro Bank’s own internship efforts. Bethany has played a key role in creating an internship experience that gives students hands-on learning across departments while encouraging involvement in community and nonprofit-related projects. The result is a program that has produced fresh ideas, meaningful contributions, and even long-term hires.
